Where Are They Now? Kieran Ingram

“The Seventh Seal”, Kieran Ingram 2020

Many RJAFTA award recipients are actively engaged in the same creative pursuit that won them their award. We delight in following their careers, and feel privileged to have played a small role in helping to elevate their artistic dream. But what have our previous award recipients been up to since winning their award? Fortunately we have been able to keep track of most of them. Today, meet an internationally acclaimed artist who divides his time between WA and the English countryside.

Kieran Ingram, Award Recipient 2006, 2007, 2013

Internationally acclaimed artist Kieran Ingram divides his time between studios in Perth, Western Australia and the English countryside. Kieran’s primary artistic form is Still Life. Ingram has a swag of awards and exhibitions to his credit, and has exhibited in London, Bath, Manchester, New York, Rome, Melbourne and various galleries in Australia.

Iconic art and culture magazine, Beautiful Bizarre, says of Kieran Ingram’s art “Additionally, Australian still-life painter Kieran Ingram connects obscure objects using trump l’oeil techniques. Cleverly, he weaves in literature, natural history, archaeology and anthropology into his work.”. (Read the article)

Of the extraordinary artwork pictured above, Kieran says on his Facebook page “This piece - The Seventh Seal was inspired by Ingmar Bergman’s film of the same name. The film recounts the story of a knight undergoing an existential crisis whilst he plays a game of chess against Death. If he loses, he dies. If he wins, he gets to live. The painting incorporates visual references to the film and its themes. The composition and colours suggest a chess board. The horse represents the Knight, who opposes the pale-faced figure of death. These characters are surrounded by many symbols of time; both manmade and natural.”
