Our History
On the 30th April, 1987 a Deed of Trust was drawn up and named the Mundaring Bicentennial Scholarship Trust. Its purpose was to empower a group of trustees to provided financial assistance to deserving young artists within the Shire of Mundaring in Western Australia.
Two of the nine current trustees have been within the organisation since its inception. None of the trustees is involved in the judging which is carried out each year by an independent panel of artists chosen according to the interests of the applicants.
Prominent Darlington artist, Bob Juniper agreed to be the first Trust patron. Bob traditionally presented the scholarships each year. Sadly Bob passed away on 20 December 2012. In 2022 Bob’s widow Patricia Juniper, gallery director of Juniper Galleries, kindly accepted the Trust’s invitation to become co-patron with RJAFTA Emeritus Patron Richard Woldendorp AM. Richard is an internationally acclaimed photographer and long-time Shire of Mundaring resident, and a Bob Juniper contemporary. Please read more about Richard on our Friends Page.
